This is a pure 24 carat gold mask of the Thracian king Teres. The mask was discovered during excavations in 2004 on a mound near the town of Shipka in Bulgaria. The Thracian burial dates back to the second half of the 5th century BC. The discovery has enormous historical and artistic value, according to experts who are adamant that the discovery can be valued at millions of dollars. Teres I was a Thracian king, ruler of the Odrysian kingdom, born in the second half of the 6th century BC. He is the father of kings Sparadok and Sitalkus. He managed to expand the lands of the Odris and create a vast and powerful kingdom. At the end of the 6th century BC. Teres embarked on a military campaign to the northeast, annexing the lands of the Thracian people Getae along the way, and reached the Danube. There he faced another related Thracian Scythian, but it did not lead to an armed conflict with this related people. Relations between the two countries are settled through diplomatic channels. Teres marries his daughter to the Scythian ruler Ariapetus and cements their alliance. King Teres died around 448 BC, aged 92. His son Sparadok succeeds him on the throne.
