There is also the sport of roller skating, similar to figure skating. Roller skating is a sport on a wooden or plastic floor. Competitors with different types of skates take part in separate competitions and do not face each other. The sport looks like its counterpart on the ice and, although there are some differences, many of the skaters started their careers on roller skates.
