The Rosette from Pliska is a proto-Bulgarian bronze object from the early Middle Ages, found in the old Bulgarian capital of Pliska. The rosette is a bronze medallion with a diameter of about 4 cm. It has the shape of a seven-rayed star, with letters from the old Bulgarian script written on each ray. These inscriptions can be interpreted differently. One theory suggests that they depict the Sun, Moon and 5 other planets of the solar system - Mars, Venus, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn. The names of these heavenly bodies correspond even now to the seven days of the week in many of the European languages. For example, in English Monday - Moon, corresponds to the moon. From English Saturday also corresponds to Saturn. Mercury corresponds to mercredi (Wednesday) in French. The IYI mark is engraved on its reverse side. This sign is characteristic of the Bulgarian dynasty of rulers from the Dulo family. The rosette was discovered during archaeological excavations in 1961, in the palace quarter of Pliska. This ancient city was actively developed during the time of Constantine the Great, ruler of the Roman Empire, as evidenced by the style of the city walls typical of that period. With his coming to the throne, Constantine set out to strengthen his power. He negotiated with his relatives the Bulgarians and restored their independence in the lands south of the Danube River. Thus the emperor could concentrate his forces in battles against the adversaries in the southeast of the empire. Thus, in the 4th century, Bulgaria reappeared on the map south of the Danube River for the first time, after these territories were conquered by the Roman Empire in the 2nd century. Later in the 7th century, Pliska also became the capital of Bulgaria. Up to that moment, the Bulgarian Empire was on the rise, managing to regain most of its possessions on the Balkan Peninsula.
