This is a golden bull, part of the oldest golden treasure in the world. The treasure was discovered in the Varna Chalcolithic Necropolis in Bulgaria in 1972. The treasure is dated to the middle of the 5th millennium BC. The archaeological site in Varna is one of the most remarkable and significant monuments for the prehistory of the Balkans and Europe. During the excavations, more than 3,000 gold objects were found, the total weight of which is almost 6 kg. This treasure reveals many secrets about science. The variety of funerary practices, the uneven distribution of finds in graves and the abundance of metal objects change the theories about the emergence of mechanisms of power in prehistoric society. The discovery and study of the Varna Necropolis is a reason to assume that the appearance and beginnings of state entities, as well as power structures, appeared on the Balkan Peninsula nearly a millennium before the ancient civilizations in Egypt and Mesopotamia. In 2018, a new gold treasure was discovered in the village of Yunatsite, near the town of Pazardzhik, which can be dated about 200-300 years earlier than that of Varna. A bead was found, which represents the oldest processed gold, but this cannot be a question of exquisite gold objects with images and decoration, such as those from Varna. Another ancient processed gold from the same period was found in the village of Hotnitsa, near the town of Veliko Tarnovo. It features gold rings and a single gold spiral and can also be dated to the middle of the 5th millennium BC. The deposits are not far from each other and this is another confirmation of the advanced development of society in this area of the world. One of the amazing discoveries that the Varna Treasure provides us is the proportions used in the making of these gold objects. They are identical to the proportions used in the construction of the Thracian tombs and later the Egyptian pyramids. This explains to some extent how the famous monumental pyramids of Egypt were built, the oldest of which was built in the 3rd millennium BC.
