Blue cornflower, also known as cornflower, is an annual species of the genus Cornflower. It has a gray-green stem, oblong leaves and dark blue inflorescences. It grows between 30 and 90 cm in height. Blooms from May to July. Blue cornflower grows in the fields as a weed, rarely - in fields and abandoned places. It is widespread from the lowlands up to 1800 m above sea level. Blue cornflower has very beautiful colors. It has become a national symbol of Belarus. Apart from its beauty, it also has healing properties. Only the blue flowers, without the sheathing leaves of the basket, are used for medicinal purposes. They are dried in the shade because the colors fade when dried in the sun and lose their therapeutic value. Blue cornflower acts as an appetite stimulant, choleretic and diuretic. The use of cornflower is recommended for patients exhausted by a long illness, for loss of appetite of various origins, as well as for kidney diseases.
